14 months of Lane Closure and Traffic Detour

Residents in the vicinity of Finch Avenue at Valley Farm Road are advised of the closure of westbound Finch Avenue from west of Guild Road to Valley Farm Road commencing October 1, 2013 until approximately December 1, 2014 ( a period of 14 months). This lane closure requires a reconfiguration of lanes and turning movements at the intersection of Finch Avenue at Valley Farm Road, and for safety reasons also prohibits the movement of southbound Valley Farm Road to eastbound Finch Avenue. All other movements at the intersection will be accommodated.

The Region of York has installed several Portable Variable Message Boards and other signs in the vicinity to advise motorists of the upcoming lane closure. A detour will be in place directing traffic to use Kingston Road and Liverpool Road to navigate around the closure. Notices advising of the lane closure will also be placed in the Pickering News Advertiser.

The lane closure is required in order to construct the connection chamber on the northeast corner of the intersection. This chamber is where the newly constructed SEC pipe will be connected to the existing SEC pipe. Due to a change in the location of the connection chamber and construction methodology being used to reduce risk, the impact on the intersection and resulting lane closure is significantly longer than originally contemplated when the project commenced in 2011, and about 6 months longer than anticipated and reported about a year ago.

The Region of York acknowledges the inconvenience of the lane closure and will endeavour to have the construction completed and the lane reopened as quickly as possible.
